Many of us in the Monday Night Book Group have shared the joys of knowing Evelyn Daniel, her contagious smile, her imaginative intellect, her kindness and her courage. Her life ended on November 24, 2019 at her home. To those who never met Evelyn, this remembrance can serve as an introduction to a joyful person with a lasting influence. In our book group we could depend on Evelyn to suggest good books and lead discussions, especially of difficult classics. She would gently help us understand times and cultures that were outside out own experience.
October 24, 2019 Evelyn to R : Dear R, I doubt I will be able to lead The Bluest Eye for which I am very sorry. I have learned that this coughing, laryngitis and general malaise is unfortunately lung cancer which has metastasized into liver and blood. . . . Doctor says “months”. I think weeks. I am sad to leave my children and friends but I can’t say I’m leaving prematurely. I have enjoyed my life especially the last few years. I’m content. . . . . With affection and best wishes — I may see you again but may not. Evelyn
