To finish your work, you need to secure the loops on your needle so they will not unravel. You will cast off these stitches by pulling one stitch, one loop, through one next to it.
1. On a knit row, knit the first two stitches. 2. Using the left-hand needle, insert the point into the first stitch on the right-hand needle and lift that stitch up and over the second stitch on the needle. The second two pictures below illustrate this movement.
3. Knit one more stitch and repeat the process. 4. Your work will gradually begin to look like the first two pictures below. 5. When you get to the last stitch, the last loop on your needle, cut the yarn and pull it out through the stitch so that there is no longer a loop to unravel. It will look like the third picture below.
When you have mastered these four basic steps, you can go on to knit a scarf, an afgan, or a hat. You have lots of choices now. There are varied methods for accomplishing these four steps. You may learn some of these methods at your leisure. You have choices available. Enjoy your knitting.
